The majesty and serenity of the Saharan Desert has captured the imaginations of explorers and adventurers for hundreds of years. For centuries the legends of lost oases deep in the desert have compelled men to risk their lives and reputations to become the first to discover these mystical places. Of the three lost oases, Merga, 'Uweinat and Zerzura, only Zerzura remained undiscovered by the late 1920's. First mentioned in Arabic manuscripts from the thirteenth century, Zerzura has defeated all those who search for it. The 1920's and 30's saw the launch of many expeditions deep into the Libyan Desert and which have recently been captured on films such as the English Patient and The Mummy. Does this lost oasis exist in our world or does it just reside in our romantic imaginations to drive us to further explore and challenge the boundaries within which we live? In September 2004, a team of ten men and women will once again brave the hardships and aridity of the desert to search for the final lost oasis of Zerzura. As part of the challenge, three original 1930's Model A Fords will be used, these 70 year old vintage motor cars will have been professionally rebuilt and tested to withstand the rigours this incredible adventure will place upon them. In support will be two Land rovers.
